Light with the Clouds

“The Lord will command His loving kindness in the daytime, and in the night His song shall be with me. A prayer to the God of my life.” (Psalm 42:8 NLJV)

Dark clouds surrounded the lake and blocked the sunrise. In the gloomy silence, trees slowly emerged from the night. Slivers of light poked between the clouds.

Far from the rising sun in the southern sky, a pale, pink cloud surprised me. Despite the dreariness around it, the little cloud beamed. Its color illuminated the grayness for a moment.

My eyes returned to the east. Gradually, above the lake, feathery white clouds on a blue background, replaced part of the gray.

That morning there was no glorious sunrise. But the mixture of darkness and brightness formed a pleasing picture.

My life is usually composed of a combination of dark and light too. Rarely are there days without clouds of pain, grief, or disappointment. Difficult situations help me to appreciate more fully the joyous sunrises.

Often, people have been tiny, pink clouds to brightened my gloomy day.

Loving Father, thank you for the light and dark in my life. Help me to be a pink cloud to others.  Amen

The Son's Reflection

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ Matthew 25: 37-40 (NIV)

A double sun astonished me. Rising mist and tiny ripples distorted one of them changing it from a perfect circle to a free form shape. Its varying light, though bright, didn’t hurt my eyes.

However, when I tried to stare at the real sun, my eyes hurt from the intense brilliance. As it rose in the sky, the reflection followed its path.

The reflection on the lake could only shine when connected to its source. When the trees blocked the light, it wavered and vanished.

My morning spectacle reminded me of being connected to God. Only when I am connected to Him can I reflect Him in the dark world.

The Holy Spirit leads me to send a card, make a phone call, write a devotional, offer a word of encouragement, or give a hug. Each time, I am spreading a little of His light and love.

Dear Lord, help me to listen to you and then act so that your love and light are spread into the world. Amen
